Cooler Weather

Fall is here and there is a nip in the air; that means that the holidays and cold weather are just around the corner.  We at Reynolda Veterinary Hospital would like to give you a few tips to keep your pets safe this fall and winter.

Halloween can be fun for us all, including our pets.  Remember that chocolate is toxic to pets and must be kept well out of reach.  You may want to bake some homemade pet treats for your pet to join in the good times; there are a number of recipes online.  Consider an amusing costume for your pet.  However, be sure any pets are closely monitored when wearing costumes, as some costumes may be choking hazards.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah are enjoyable for all, including your furry family members.  Please remember that those rich holiday meals are not suitable for your pet’s tummy.  In fact, veterinarians see more cases of pancreatitis around the holidays than any other time of year.  Again, consider baking healthy pet treats for your dogs and cats.

Keep in mind that cold temperatures can be dangerous for outdoor pets.  Bring your pets inside if the temperature dips below the freezing mark and be sure they have a warm insulated shelter from the cold.  There are lots of sweaters and coats for dogs available and some are quite fashionable.
Have a great fall and Holiday Season!
 Dr. Eric Taylor

The fact that the Sphynx is a hairless cat is only a small part of why we are Sphynx lovers. Sphynx cats and Sphynx kittens have very unique personalities. I really do not consider myself an owner of Sphynx cats, because really, my Sphynx cats and Sphynx kittens own me! Sphynx cats and Sphynx kittens love their owners unconditionally. The Sphynx has so much love to give and is willing to love anyone that will allow them into their lives.

“Some days can be so overwhelming, though, that we must practice focusing our minds on Him that our hearts not be led astray. This is where the Word comes in.” I couldn’t agree more! When my time in the Word is lacking, every area of my life suffers.

Wish I had known this was available a few years ago. I lost my dog to cancer that was unknown to both the vets and me. We were treating Jack for bronchitis.........we were not prepared for his death. After he died the vets asked to perform an animal autopsy, which I authorized. We were all stunned to discover that one of his lungs was riddled with cancer. I was devastated. An organization of this type would have been of extreme benefit to me. Keep doing the good work. We pet lovers need the support .

Great points on traveling with your pet…I am not a fan of any sedation on the plane because the altitude and sedation can be an issue with animals. There are a lot of natural remedies like lavender essential oils and other pet calming products that work nicely. Delta no long flies pets…United pet care (United airlines) they only do pets so for people with larger animals they are pretty good.

I live in Hong Kong, but I’ve seen that not all of them treat the animals with care. It’s refreshing to read about a dog café owner who’s drive comes from a spot of love and not money. I’d love to visit one day.
